I've quite often said that I have actually experienced increased libido from Propecia use.
Well, here is another part to the story.
For the first time, I actually had about a two week period where I just wasn't really interested in sex. It kind of sneaked up on me and I just was like "what is up?" (or not up, whatever).
What I'd like to say is that I started to say, "holy crap, no, I'm experiencing the 'Propecia Curse'". Propecia has regrown hair for me, but I'd rather be bald than not be a man.
However, I'd like to say that the "Propecia Curse" has run it's course for now -- things are back to normal, thankfully. I'm much happier.
Maybe the temporary decrease in libido had to do with a recent move and job change I've had and that stress. I don't know -- but it lingered for a couple of weeks. I started to blame Propecia, but didn't change my dose.
Still taking 1/4 Proscar a day. Everything is back to normal.
If you are taking Propecia and you have a period of "down time", my hope is that it is also temporary.

To men who stopped taking Propecia because of the "Propecia Curse": how long did you have the ill-effects before you said enough is enough? When did it happen to you (how long after you started taking it)?

Its probably not even propecia related, that happens to people from time to time, it has happend to me before i ever started the drug, ussually it only lasts a few days, I think it occours when I over do it for a while.

I to have been an avid user of Propecia for a few years now. And I also have experienced fluxuation in my sex drive. However, it is difficult for me, like "none", to pin point wether it is drug related or just normal life experiences. At any rate, the decreased sex drive comes and goes, and is always very short lived. Also, I feel the benifits of this drug largely out-weight this potential side effect. However, if this does become a serious problem for someone. There are always stimulants, such as Tribulus Terrestris, one could take to combat this side effect.

Good points and I agree with you.

I haven't had another "abnormally long" down period. Two weeks is a long time for me.

I personally think the "spikes" are more intense and poignant. There will be days I can hardly work, because all I can think about is sex.

Sad but true. It can be quite a distraction. At least it makes me feel alive. And every time I find myself saying "damn, this is distracting", I remember how I the opposite case was, and how I didn't like that at all.

I think that guys taking propecia/proscar who notice a "decreased libido" instantly want to blame the drug without weighing any of the other issues (stress, etc) that can be just as effective at halting the sex drive. I only say this because that's exactly what I did. I was taking 1/4 proscar for a week and subsequently wasn't feeling very "driven" and immediately paniced and stopped taking it. The funny thing is that even after stopping I was still feeling the same for a month or so after. I've since come to reason that the lack of sex drive was purely mental. Its more self-perputating than anything, and all it took was some good action to "lift" myself back into the swing. Usually thats the best remedy, and people may see some benefit in picking up some virility blends at a local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe (e.g. Horny Goat Weed, VigRX, etc) to help out.

I'm considering giving Proscar another shot, as I was really bummed that I may not be able to take it. I'm 21 years old, and I think I'll be able to see some really great results as I've got primarily some light crown thinning. Even if it was the finasteride that was causing the lack of sex drive, at least now I know that it will eventually go away when I stop taking it.

just my $.02
