I have took Proscar for over 10 years. I still seem to be thinning on the front hairline. A hair DR told me I should take Avodart, as well as Proscar. That there are 2 causes of DHT and Proscar works on "cause 1" , but not " #2". And Avodart will work on "cause 2", but not "cause 1". Since I have took Proscar for so long and I am still thinning I should now try Avodart, too.
Another hair DR (I have consulted with about 5 in regards to a HT) told be that I should only take one. That Avodart works on both causes of DHT. So if Proscar is not working effectively enough, I should switch to just Avodart.
you would be well advised to use the "find" function on this forum regarding Avodart. This should shed some light on how the drug works, potential side effects etc.
