I'm a 35 year old Male

I've been taking propecia on and off for a number of years - I like the results but I suffer from significant reduced sex drive and sex itself is less satisfying... it's got so bad now I've stopped taking it and my sex life has improved forthwith!!

is there anything out there as good or better then propecia but without the reported libido side effects? I've heard of things like Dutasteride and Proscar...

Thanks

Kennyboy,

Welcome to the forums.

First off, I am sorry to hear about your adverse reaction to Finasteride. Keep in mind that Proscar is the same as Propecia in that Finasteride is its principle active ingredient. The only difference is in the doseages.

Dutasteride may be an answer for you. However, it is a more potent form of medication. I have heard cases of individuals that had side-effects with Finasteride that didn't with Dutasteride. I have also spoken with individuals that have had adverse effects with Dutasteride as well. Another fact to consider is that the half-life of Dutasteride is much longer than that of Finasteride. This means that if you do experience side-effects, it will take longer for those effects to dissipate upon discontinuation of the medication.

I wish there was an easy answer for you. Unfortunately, there is not. Speak to your physician about what he thinks is safe for you to try. These medications do affect hormone levels (as you know) and that can be a serious game.

Also, you may want to peruse topical DHT inhibitors. These are used by hair loss sufferers with mixed results. Here are a few links that may help you out:

Thanks Robert.

I don't currently have a physician here in the UK - will have a look at getting one.

Will research the links....
