Troy,

FANTASTIC !!!! I had some previous work done and even with that it looks less than your pre-op pictures. It gives me great hope to know that the recepient site doesnt have to be shaved down to do this. I hope to have this done. Did you have any shock loss ?

When i went to Shapiro I agreed to cut my hair short, Pamela one of the techs( she is awesome) she said she would cut it shorter, but leave it as long as possible. I actually liked the haircut. I literally pulled this off and people who see me on a regular basis still have no idea. They just thought I got my hair cut. At 7-8 days post op I had stitches in my head but noone had a clue i had this done, i had a big party for my son noone eyes wondered. With saying this I have olive like complextion and reddness didnt seem to be a factor with me. I dont think you could have a huge session 3000 plus without shaving your head, Im not sure where the cut off is that they need to shave, but for some of us shaving our heads and going through a month or 2 of downtime is not possible. I speak a lot in my posts about this being a very emotional roller coaster ride, and now looking back I cant remeber if I had much shockloss or if it was just the grafts shedding. I remember at about a month post op thinking holy crap my hair is thin, but it could have been it was cut a lot shorter, also you get to see your hair with with the grafts in and it looks thicker then they fall out and it looks thinner. so this can play mind games with you, so I really dont know if I had shockloss or not for sure.

Congrats, you look great. I too had hair tranplanted into some existing hair. I shaved down to a 2 AFTER the transplant and said the same thing WOW thats thin. But I also clearly had alot of shock loss due to the procedure. I am seeing quite a bit of growth. But its been very uneven. Good luck and enjoy you new hair.

Cheers.

I just posted 8 month post op pics. I cant tell much of a difference from about 5 months post op to now. I went through a late shedding, im not sure what that was about. At 8 months they say i could have 4 more months of improvement so we will see. I will keep a good journal and we will let the pictures tell the story.

Troy

How long is your hair in the 8 month pics and what did the doc say your total density is on top? I can see a positive difference between your 5 month pics and 8 months. I'll be interested to see your progress in the coming months.

slick, I cut it to a number 7, normally I cut it to a number 8 on top Ive tried to keep my hair the same length for the sake of documenting my results. They thought my density would be somewhere around 35cm2-40cm2. Ill go in in the next couple months and see what they think. I am approaching this like a science project and trying to document my progress the most accurate I can. I have heard many say you can have big improvemnets between 8-12 months, I will take pics every month and we will see.

Troy, I appreciate the steady updates on your progress. I have a similar pattern of thinning hair so I have always looked forward to seeing the new photos. You estimate around 35 - 40 cm2 currently, what do you think you were pre surgery? Also did the doctor use the new closure technique where the hair grows through the scar? Anyway everything looks great, congratulations.

I would guess I was 10-15cm2 in the temples and and on the bridge behind the hairline. Things we discussed in my consultation was shockloss, at that time they (Shapiro, Matt) could do 20-25cm2 without having much shockloss. And I didnt have to shave my head. I am only guessing on my density. After I go back and talk with Shapiro I will have a better insight on my density. Yes Dr Rose did use the Tri-closure technique on me. you can see a line when I look way down, I tried to show that in one of my pics , but its hard to get it backwards looking down in the mirror, lol. from looking at me from behind you cant see the scar when i cut my hair to a number 3. I havent tried to go shorter because I am tall( 6'2) so I think the scar would be visable for most who look up at me. After the one year mark and I have documented my progress, I will let my hair grow out a bit and the scar wont show at all.

Troy,
Congratulations and I'm not surprised considering that it was done by Dr.Rose. He is undoubtedly one of the best in the business.

Cheers,

Funny story, I was thinking about I will be coming up on 10 months post op and counted the months, actually it will be 9 months, lol. How do I change my heading from almost 7 months, I wanted to update it in a few days with some new pictures, that will be 9 months post op.

Troy,

Looks as if it simply grew in...looks great!

Thanks for doing the "wet" shots; it highlights the exact match of your transplant to the density of your original hair.

I'm sure you're enthused about the months to come!

Troy, looks great my friend, I and many others here know how you felt and certainly how you feel now. I would like to point out that you and your level of baldness is why sessions of 2000 to 3000 grafts in the hands of one of the best, are the right way to go. Only you know what your heart desires, but I think you look great and would settle in for a little while and enjoy your fountain of youth---- I am always encouraged by the before and afters of the sufferers that belong to this community, it makes me feel that we are making a difference in the industry. Congrats once again my friend!

Troy,

Your results this far have been great........I'm envious Wink. I look forward to seeing your updated pics. I've followed your progress start to finish and it looks fantastic. I'm sure you're please with the results!

Bspot has a good point here (as he usually does).........though I'm a proponent of going for the gusto where grafts are concerned if you're trying to cover a lot of sq cm's, at the same time, for someone such as yourself, a 2000-3000 can give you everything you need.

Keep postin' your thoughts and updated pics!

I think your results have been great! There is definately a time for the big megasessions but your case was not one. I think the best time for a mega is when there is a clean slate and not much risk of shock loss. When I see pics of people with diffused thining I cringe at a dense packing as it will shock a lot of existing hair.
