It depends on how you define "thickening". If you are referring to regrowing miniaturized hairs - your best bet is to consider a shampoo with Ketoconazole like Revita or Nizoral. This is NOT FDA approved for hair loss - however there is some scientific indication that it might help.

To help the hair appear thicker however, is another story. There are a number of "volumizing" shampoos that will help with this. You don't have to spend a lot either. Just look on the shelf for any shampoo and conditioner that says that it adds volume or body.
