Robert and everyone else,

Thanks for the tips and info. I'll be ordering Dermatch soon. After all these years, I've just started to notice my crown thinning, and I'm freaking out about it.

Regarding the color, Dermatch's website says if your hair is highlighted, to match the root color. I'm still not sure what mine is, though. I could order the whole 8-pack, but I know I won't use all of them.

Again, do you blend the stuff over your whole head of hair, or just the "problem zones"?

Also, what kind of brush do you use, and does that come with your order?

Finally, on a remotely related topic: Pat H went under the knife for his crown recently. He was on propecia, but baldnes got the best of him. My question is: Does propecia only delay the inevitable?

Thanks again,

Bob

I apply the dermatch to the "problem zones" (i.e. thinning areas) with the included applicator. I then brush it in with a brush. While I do this I also brush it in to all other areas of my head so it blends in naturally.

To top it all off after it dries I sprinkle in a little Toppik for the ultimate in naturaly coverage. I find that this "one, two" punch is the best combo out there.

Propecia works mainly as a DHT inhibition device for maintenance - meaning that it is working if it stabilizes your hairloss. Any growth you see is kind of a bonus, in my opinion. So even though Pat was on Propecia, his crown was far gone enough so that the subsequent procedure was needed.

Ok...I took the plunge and ordered some Dermatch...I normally wear a hat everywhere...so I am going to give this a shot to see what happens!!! Your pics with Dermatch look so good Robert that you have inspired me...so here I go! Hopefully after one or 2 more HTs, I won't need it anymore!

Good luck, Falc. If you have any questions about application or anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks man! I should be getting it on Friday...per their email. I ordered a light and medium brown...so we'll see how it goes. I hope I can get it to match my hair color...if not, then back to the drawing board! Can you blend the colors? If so...how hard is that? Any experience doing that?

Yes, you can blend the colors and if I am not mistaken, you first swab the applicator in the dark color, then the light, then apply. The directions will tell you for sure, though. I was lucky enough that the dark matched almost perfectly, though.

good stuff! I have a feeling that the light brown might be a perfect match...but who knows! My hair is like a golden blondish brown...hard to describe...some lights it looks dark, and other lights it looks truly blonde. Might be hard to match completely!

You have to be getting excited, bc. Yeah, there is a definite change of outlook after the procedure even if I do still have to use a concealer on the crown (I had no grafts placed there).

I am also using the Dermmatch + Toppik Combo since day 10 after my ht. My doctor said at this mark there will be no problems with the newly transplanted grafts. So I am sure this will be fine. But what bothers me is that I can not wash everything from the Dermmatch by shampooing it in the evening. Of course I would not like to do anything which could disturb the growth of my newly transplanted grafts. Anyone out there who has an idea how I can get rid of the stubbornly rest of Dermmatch every night? Thank you very much in advance!

How long are you post-op, Deepinthought?

If you are over 10 days post op then you aren't going to lose any grafts by shampooing a little harder to get the dermatch out. I have not had a problem in getting dermatch out with normal shampooing but perhaps in your case a second shampooing would help? After all, the bottle does say "Rinse and Repeat," right? Big Grin

Hope this helps, man.

Quick question about Dermatch who have used it already. How do you incorporate minoxidil with dermatch in the morning since it takes quite a time for minoxidil to be absorbed into the scalp? Can Dermatch be used right after minoxidil applied? thank you for responses...

waittosee,

I wouldn't recommend using Dermatch directly after applying Minoxidil. You would be best served by waiting at least an hour or so for the minoxidil to dry.

Hey all.
I currently use Prothik on my crown in between surgeries for the past year.
I just had another surgery 3 weeks ago and am experiencing shock in the crown with the very little density hair I had back there.
Now some spots have very little or no hair to work with when applying the concealers.
The Prothik is starting not to look as good seeing I have much less hair temporarily hopefully.
Does Dermamatch work well on thinner crowns with very little hair?
If not which concealer looks the best with very sparse coverage of hair in crown?

Since all concealers must have surrounding hair to work with, if there is an actual bald spot then nothing may be ideal for you at this time. That being said, Dermmatch does bond to the hair shaft and actually makes it thicker as well as color the scalp which blends it in nicely with the surrounding hair thus creating much less of a contrast. I think that Dermmatch, applied correctly, would give you the best result at this stage. Consider sprinkling on some Toppik also.

Robert,
Your hair looks great without the concealers!
I wouldn't even bother. Get some sun back there and enjoy life! lol

Thanks, Hairseeker2, but my crown is still a little thin for my taste. Not thin enough to warrant another procedure at this time but thin enough that a little Dermmatch and Toppik makes it look great.

Thanks again, though. Big Grin

You are using way too much water on the applicator. It only needs to be damp and sometimes it works fine dry. Try it both ways. Additionally, after you have applied it, it is a good idea to towel off the entire area to blend in any inconsistent patches and knock off any extra Dermmatch in there. This will keep it from coming off on your fingers. A little goes a long way with this stuff and less is definitely more.
